John MacDougall - Trust Manager
John graduated BA in Ancient & Modern History from Oxford University in 2000. He joined Baillie Gifford in 2000 and is now Investment Manager in the Japanese Investment Team. John is a CFA charterholder.
The Investment Team
There are a team of investment professionals (consisting of investment managers and investment analysts) dedicated to Japanese equity investment, supported by investment assistants and dealers. The team is responsible for the stock selection and portfolio management of all Japanese equities across Baillie Gifford's client base. We believe that this represents one of the largest and most experienced teams involved in Japanese fund management outside Tokyo. Within this team the investment manager investment analyst and investment assistant are dedicated to managing money invested in Japanese smaller companies.
All members of the team have fundamental company research as their primary responsibility, regardless of whether they are investment managers or analysts. This reflects our view that stock selection based on fundamental research is our main opportunity to add value. In addition, they all have sector specific responsibilities ranging from the smallest to the largest companies within that sector. Baillie Gifford Shin Nippon PLC therefore benefits from the experience, expertise and insights of each member of the investment team, not just one or two individuals.
The location of all Baillie Gifford's international investment professionals in one building enables us to share views on the development of cross-border investment themes which are relevant to the Japanese market, and facilitates reviews of the competitive strengths and valuations of Japanese companies relative to their international peers.

Anzelm Cydzik - Investment Trust Liaison and Development Manager
Anzelm (BA Joint Hons History & Politics) joined Baillie Gifford in 2000 as Investment Assistant on the Emerging Markets team. In August 2003 he joined the Investment Trust Team where he has specific client responsibility for Pacific Horizon Investment Trust, The Baillie Gifford Japan Trust, Baillie Gifford Shin Nippon and Edinburgh Worldwide Investment Trust. He is responsible for relationships with boards, shareholders and analysts and also helps with marketing and public relations for the Baillie Gifford Investment Trust range.
Lindsey Greig - Marketing Manager
Lindsey Greig is the Marketing Manager responsible for developing and monitoring all aspects of customer care and marketing support for personal investors and intermediaries. She joined the firm in 1986 and is a graduate of the University of Aberdeen.
Lindsey Beattie - Head of Investment Trust Accounting
Lindsey graduated MA in History in 1981 from Edinburgh University, followed by a Diploma in Accounting from Heriot Watt University the following year. She qualified as a CA with Ernst & Young in 1985 and, after working as an investment accountant for Investors Capital Trust plc, joined Baillie Gifford in 1986. Lindsey heads up the Baillie Gifford Investment Trust Accounting and Secretarial Department. She was a member of the AIC SORP review working party.
