"What I like most about working in this organisation is that, along with leading technologies, it gives me an opportunity to be involved in and contribute to all the phases of a project life cycle."
Working with Baillie Gifford as an Application Developer is a highly challenging and enjoyable experience. The firm’s in-house approach to systems development gives me plenty of opportunities to develop my skills in new technologies and to continue increasing my knowledge of the financial industry. The working atmosphere here is open and the developers are always encouraged to bring forward their own ideas. Baillie Gifford has regularly sent me on relevant courses to keep me abreast of the latest technologies and I have also attended personal development courses, run both internally and externally.
I joined Baillie Gifford in 1999 as Application Developer. Since then I have worked on projects like Front Office Developments, Straight Through Processing, Intranet, Client Restrictions, Derivatives application, plus many more. What I like most about working in this organisation is that, along with leading technologies, it gives me an opportunity to be involved in and contribute to all the phases of a project life cycle. Furthermore, whether I am working on a project individually or within a team, there is always someone on hand who is willing to help me out if I require any extra assistance.
My current responsibilities mainly involve:
- Carrying out the analysis, design and development of applications to high standards
- The implementation of those applications within the company
- Providing support for Front Office applications.
Our Application Development team is a young team. My colleagues are very supportive and the senior management is very approachable. All this makes working here even more enjoyable.
After finishing my graduation from Delhi University and gaining five years of IT experience in India, I moved to Edinburgh to join Baillie Gifford. After six years, on the one hand, I feel that the time has passed very quickly. On the other, I feel at the same time that I have lived here for more years than I actually have. This is partly due to the warm, friendly and helpful nature of people with whom I work and of people from Scotland in general, and partly due to the very scenic, vibrant and welcoming city that is Edinburgh.
