Ian Bruce
Marketing Campaign Manager
Retail Investments Department
"Each subsequent year has presented me with fresh challenges and new opportunities and in that time my role has substantially changed to become what it is today."
I work as the Marketing Campaign Manager within the Retail Investments Department. My role is to take responsibility for the investment trust marketing campaigns. This covers the planning and implementation of the campaigns through to the reporting on the success of each campaign and making proposals about future campaigns.
Baillie Gifford is one of the oldest and largest investment trust managers in the UK and currently manages eight investment trusts. We offer products such as ISAs and children’s savings schemes through which private investors can buy shares in these trusts. The marketing campaigns are designed to attract new investors into these products and also to retain our existing customers. This means we can be doing anything from advertising in the national press and arranging large mailing campaigns to attending private investors forums.
A large part of my job involves liasing with the agencies we use to help us create the marketing campaigns. This includes design agencies, PR companies, direct mail agencies and media buyers so there is always plenty of variety to each day.
I joined Baillie Gifford in October 2000 as a Marketing Documentation Manager looking after the production of the extensive range of literature required to support Baillie Gifford’s investment trust and OEIC business. Each subsequent year has presented me with fresh challenges and new opportunities and in that time my role has substantially changed to become what it is today. Baillie Gifford has supported me with training and also by helping me to take further marketing qualifications.
A benefit of working at Baillie Gifford is that I can work for a successful investment management firm without having to relocate to London and at the same time enjoy a good work/life balance.
